About Me

Hello, My name is Nicholas Baloun. I have been a music instructor teaching Piano, Guitar, and Bass Guitar since 2015 working with MusicTown Studio in Woodland, CA and owning my own private studio here in Solano County, California.

I have been playing music since I can remember and have spent countless hours studying and practicing through the last 30 years.

I play Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drums. I am thankful to have a small private home studio which I record music for various projects some of which can be found on my “Listen” page.

Early Life

As a military brat, we lived outside the United States for the majority of my early life. I was exposed to the rich and beautiful culture of Japan before my 6th birthday. While living overseas my parents found that I had a strong affinity for music. My ability to play by ear was becoming apparent. My parents found a local teacher on base who tried her best to teach me to read music. She was patient and kind and helped me learn the songs in my Alfred’s Basic Piano Lesson Book. During my lessons, I found learning to read music to be tedious and impossible, as if the notes were not staying still. This was before we learned I have dyslexia. It was easier to hear someone play it and learn it from how it sounds.

After 6 or 7 months of lessons my teacher moved back to the States. I continued as best I could in learning new songs. I was inspired and encouraged by the musicians at our church and by the time I was 13 I was starting to crank out song after song. My father asked me if I’d like to record some of my ideas and save them. I said yes! After connecting my keyboard to the computer my dad was able to show my work in the program Finale.

It would be a number of years later and another move from the US to Europe that got me extremely interested in saving my music.

This is where I’ll leave it til next edit.
